Ladybird Brooch Making Tutorial

Difficulty level: Intermediate.
Time for creating: 8 hours.
Size: 6х2.5 cm.

Materials and tools:

a base for embroidery, for example — dense felt;
0.511–0.812 mm wire;
a piece of cardboard;
any tulle;
narrow lace;
3 and 4 mm sequins;
beads of various shapes and sizes: 2, 3, 4, and 5 mm Swarovski bicones, 4 mm pearl beads, 4 mm faceted Czech beads;
any kind of sead beads: Toho #11, #15 and #8, Miyuki Delica #11, Matsuno #11;
nail pins for the legs and antennae;
2 mm brooch base;
needle;
thread for seed beads;
scissors;
round-nose pliers, pliers and wire cutters.

Step 1.

Prepare all necessary details:

a piece of a dense felt 6x2.5 cm (approximately) and several smaller pieces of the felt to make volume for a body and a head;
a piece of cardboard, a piece of leather;
two frames for wings, made of wire.

Get ready to embroider the wings.

Seed beads Toho and Miyuki (#11 and #15), Swarovski pearl beads and bicones, sequins.

Step 2.

Join the frame with the tulle.

Step 3.

Cut the tulle off around the wire wings.

Step 4.

Pick T15 seed beads and sew the wire round to make a nice edge.

Step 5.

Start embroidering with the sequins, seed beads and different beads.

Step 6.

Now take the body base and sew the lace around the edge.

Step 7.

Sew the pieces of felt to add volume.

Get ready to embroider the body.

Step 8.

Start embroider the body (look at the picture).

Step 9.

Continue embroidery.

Step 10.

Now sew the wings to the base placing them over the embroidered body.

Get ready to decorate the head.

Step 11.

Sew the pieces of felt to add volume.

Step 12.

Start embroider the head (look at the picture) in the same way as the body.

Step 13.

Make the legs and antennae.

Step 14.

Sew the legs and antennae to the felt.

Step 15.

To make the base harder, glue a piece of cardboard over the sewn legs and glue the piece of leather over.

Step 16.

Decorate the edge.

The result.
