Ladybird Brooch Making Tutorial

Materials and tools:
  • a base for embroidery, for example — dense felt;
  • 0.511–0.812 mm wire;
  • a piece of cardboard;
  • any tulle;
  • narrow lace;
  • 3 and 4 mm sequins;
  • beads of various shapes and sizes: 2, 3, 4, and 5 mm Swarovski bicones, 4 mm pearl beads, 4 mm faceted Czech beads;
  • any kind of sead beads: Toho #11, #15 and #8, Miyuki Delica #11, Matsuno #11;
  • nail pins for the legs and antennae;
  • 2 mm brooch base;
  • needle;
  • thread for seed beads;
  • scissors;
  • round-nose pliers, pliers and wire cutters.
  • Step 1.
    Prepare all necessary details:
    • a piece of a dense felt 6x2.5 cm (approximately) and several smaller pieces of the felt to make volume for a body and a head;
    • a piece of cardboard, a piece of leather;
    • two frames for wings, made of wire.
  • Getting ready.

  • Get ready to embroider the wings.

    Seed beads Toho and Miyuki (#11 and #15), Swarovski pearl beads and bicones, sequins.
  • Step 2.
    Join the frame with the tulle.
  • Step 3.
    Cut the tulle off around the wire wings.
  • Step 4.
    Pick T15 seed beads and sew the wire round to make a nice edge.
  • Step 5.
    Start embroidering with the sequins, seed beads and different beads.

  • Step 6.
    Now take the body base and sew the lace around the edge.

    Make the legs and antennae.

    Sew the legs and antennae to the felt.
  • Step 15.
    To make the base harder, glue a piece of cardboard over the sewn legs and glue the piece of leather over.

    Decorate the edge.
